Learning to fly....

I took the Skyfun out for its' short-lived maiden voyage yesterday.

It was a bit disastrous. The first problem was choice of airfield. I compromised going to a soccer field like I had planned since my friend and I approached it with a "what can go wrong" attitude. Ants and sandals. Terrible field choice, was perilously close to power lines and backyards. Never compromise a flight plan. Lesson learned.

The control surfaces were good and the battery velcro attachment was sufficient. I did a hand launch with full elevon and 75% throttle and she climbed quite admirably into a stall and subsequently took a nose dive. I ended up bending the nose quite properly so now the fuselage cover won't fit right. I plan to boil some water and reshape the nose that way. I was advised by a friend that a hair dryer might be a better option but I think I'll stick with the water for now.

I'm considering getting an rc flight sim but they are so expensive. 175$ just to get one that is compatible with my TX seems a little steep considering that was the cost of the plane + Spektrum DX5e.

Hopefully I'll make the repairs tonight and bring her out again tomorrow weather permitting. Next time I'm going to go zero elevon and adjust the trim to give myself a nice easy climb. I'm also interested in building a launch device to remove me from the equation.
